POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking a Field Services Engineer or Technologist to join our Infrastructure group in Rossland, BC. This position is temporary from May to August and depending on workload, may transition to a full-time opportunity in September. Field workload will take place primarily in Nelson, BC.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of conceptual, through to final engineering documents, including detailed grading plans; servicing plans; municipal infrastructure plans; and road design

  • Assisting in the preparation of engineering drawings for land development, water resource, transportation and municipal projects

  • Ability to prepare and interpret construction documents, accurately perform mathematical computations, review and interpret engineering data, and make sound decisions

  • Assist project managers with construction cost estimating, contract administration and budget tracking

  • Gathering and interpreting current mapping information such as contours, roads, vegetation, watercourses, etc. and evaluating their impacts on project design

  • When required, under the direction of the Supervisor, Field Review Services including ensuring the construction is in completed in conformance with the design

  • Maintain communication with contractors, stakeholders, and project managers regarding status of project

  • Gather field information / data / photos / measurements during the construction process for translation into revised drawings, record drawings and completion documentation

  • Managing field data records, testing sheets, drawing markups, and geotechnical testing reports

  • Maintaining organized filing of construction projects using active filing and the main central system

  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology (Municipal) or other equivalent training

  • 3 - 5 years’ progressive experience in Municipal Infrastructure and Land Development

  • An EIT with relative experience in BC or a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered BC, or eligibility for registration is required.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn

  • Some experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Understanding of MMCD contract documents and contract administration

  • Some understanding of ground surveys and stakeouts as well as experience using a survey level

  • Experience in engineering consulting will be considered an asset

  • Good initiative, self-motivated, attention to detail

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Must have a willingness to travel to remote sites as needed

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
