Project Manager, Direct Impact


Direct Impact, Burson-Marsteller’s grassroots communications specialty practice, is seeking to hire a Project Manager based in Washington, DC. The Project Manager will play an integral role in helping our clients achieve grassroots communications and public affairs success. This client-facing position will be focused on the strategic planning and execution of grassroots campaigns ranging from local earned media campaigns, events/tours and issue advocacy using traditional and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will bring approximately 7+ years of public affairs and public relations experience gleaned from implementing and managing corporate and/or political campaigns across the US.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for a major client.
  • Manage regional field team and local market partners to ensure high-quality deliverables that exceed expectations.
  • Direct the execution of campaigns across multiple geographies including project management of multiple remote teams and vendors.
  • Assist in crafting strategic grassroots campaigns centered around corporate and public affairs issues as well as media strategy, product launches and events.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with multiple clients and external influencers.
  • Manage account administration duties such as billing and financial reporting.



  • Agency experience, and a minimum of 5 years of experience with issue advocacy and grassroots campaigns.
  • Proven project management skills to include experience managing multiple client projects, internal team members/suppliers/vendors/freelancers across US geographies.
  • Previous PA/PR experience with success acting as a client lead on large and complex accounts.
  • Strong editing, writing and presentation skills.
  • A strict deadline orientation and proven success in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Understanding and experience with digital and social media.
  • In-depth analytical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
