Works under general to limited supervision of Manager, Construction Inspection, with limited direction from project manager and/or senior inspector, providing project inspection on difficult new construction or challenging modification projects. The scope of project inspection includes substation site development, substation construction, transmission line right of way clearing, and/or transmission line construction. Position is responsible for providing construction inspection on assigned projects as job skills are developed; providing inspection coverage on multiple projects simultaneously with guidance from Senior Inspectors; ensuring adherence to OSHA host employer regulations and other recognized safe work practices; assisting project teams with construction related issues; assisting other inspectors during heavy workload periods; and assisting with oversight of environmental compliance measures in field. The complexity of the assigned projects for Inspector V will be the most difficult modification projects and large new projects with challenging circumstances and/or compressed schedules. The Inspector V position will help mentor less experienced inspectors during their development phase. Incumbent must achieve an excellent working knowledge of specific types of high-voltage equipment and materials used in substation and transmission line construction. Normal voltage of the projects will be 12kv through 500kv.
Education: Associates Degree
Experience: T/L or S/S construction and/ or design.
Inspector IV - Six (6) years of experience or Inspector V - Eight (8) years of experience
Equivalent Experience: Education - High school or equivalent.
Experience: T/L or S/S construction and/ or design. Inspector IV- Eight (8) years of experience or Inspector V - Ten (10) years of experience.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: : ITS Qualified Operator, Valid Georgia Driver's License, S&C Circuit Switcher Training, OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety and Health Training, CPR/Standard First Aid Certification, NPDES Level 1A Qualified Person Training, OSHA Competent Person Training, Defensive Driving, Hazard Communication.
Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.): Inspector IV - Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, safety practices and operating procedures; good verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of construction techniques and skills, installation, adjustment and operation of various complex electrical equipment, knowledge of heavy construction equipment and hand tools. Capable of completing all inspection forms in an electronic format.
Inspector V - Familiar with specification, contracting and construction management practices, including inspection, quality control, OSHA safety requirements and project control measures. Must demonstrate proficient knowledge of substation and transmission line energized work, ITS switching and standard utility construction safety practices.
Must be able to pass a NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening.
