Full Time position
The Department of Ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute for Wayne State University Physician Group is looking for experienced Opticians for our optical shop in our Detroit location.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for: General ophthalmic dispensing, including selling frames, lenses, contacts and extra options, and adjustments of eyeglasses and eyeglass repairs. Oversees all office, clerical and administrative functions concerning the Optical Shop. Billing, both computerized and manual, of insurance claims on eyeglasses. Orders and stocks supplies and products. Meets with eyeglass frame representatives and finds suitable accounts. Answers incoming phone calls. Resolves customer complaints. Daily functions, including morning report, tracking log and money collections from cash paying customers. Maintains patient confidentiality. Understands, practices and promotes the mission and philosophies of the Institute. Performs related work as required.
1. Associates in Applied Science in Optical Dispensing from an accredited college or university.
2. At least 4 years retail experience in ophthalmic dispensing.
3. Certified as an Optician through the A.B.O.C., The American Board of Opticianary, and maintain certification.
